Both very true, and my outlook on things. But when someone is being polite and orderly about asking a question or two of me when I spoke up as being one of the ones doing this, I felt it polite in turn to answer them as publically as they questioned me.
I rarely take things private unless it's some secretive bit of information I can't/won't share for some reason, and will in fact keep the majority of something like this public but note 'BTW, I e-mailed you XYZ additional info about ABC' in my public reply.
