Something to remember about taking corners is to know your vehicle, know how much body roll is acceptable without losing your traction on the road. It's sometimes a fine line. Instead of outright breaking, consider simply releasing your accelleration/gas pedal and coast into the turn. Then at the apex, you can return to accelleration...and accellerate out of the curve.
Just my $0.02. I spend alot of time behind the windshield for work, as much as 200 miles a day.
