I tend to downshift, and 'let off the gas' whenever I have to slow down.
Hell... I find myself putting the car in neutral when I'm coasting up to a stop, so I don't put undue wear on the engine. =^.6=
But yes, you're very correct, Sir. Sometimes the line between control and spinout is very fine indeed, and something I have the utmost respect for. I just learned long ago that the signs posted for a curve are often wildly inaccurate in California, especially on repeatedly-patched roads where the original measured curve angle can be shot to hell. =-.-= So sometimes I'll take a curve marked for 45 at 20, but others I'll do the opposite depending on how the curve looks and feels as I go through it. Hopefully all my practice judging curves in the mountains is still in tune with reality. :-)
