...that Star Trek Role Meme?

FIX THE DAMN HTML.

It's missing a <table> at the beginning of the code, but uses table-formatting and has a trailing </table> at the end. So it shatters my friends page, and I'm sure several others as well. I'm punting folks off of my default friends view as I run across it, but when the same meme breaks my friends page the same way for the third time in an hour... well, I make an announcement about it. :-)

...namely a fairly eclectic software package by the name of R4. It's a suite that sucks down a line-in, and supports an akward-to-understand scripting language to generate very nice visuals.

Well, I'm tired of using it.

Downloaded LCC-Win32 today. Now I need to find a skeleton framework for accessing OpenGL from that compiler, modify that to support Linux as well, and make a tiny input-only library for reading either line-in, or the buffer-out line on a sound card. Once I have that working on Windows and Linux at the same time, I'll need some help from all your graphics-geeks out there in la-la land.

Help me write a useful language to describe video effects.

Any and all ideas will be listened to. I fully intend to focus this on supporting pixel shaders to some extent, and rendering from and to textures as much as possible. The final 'on screen' display will actually be done by simply specifying what buffer to show.

Current ideas are:
Each buffer has it's own rendering function called each frame
The language will not support forward-calls to prevent cyclic references
Buffers will have seperate 'rendering' and 'available' framerates, either of which can obviously be set to 'as fast as possible' and input-side can be set to 'match the source' as well.
Things will be bytecoded for now, newer platforms like Athlon-64 have enough registers that ByteCode is Quite Fast.

The seperate framerates will be to support things like video-capture buffers more readilly, for instance making a water effect fed from a video stream only update at the framerate of the video stream, but made available for rendering on-screen at whatever framerate the video card can process. Conversely, some effects are easier to think about at a fixed framerate like, for instance, 60fps. And you can globally 'cap' the effects stack to a certain framerate for 'as fast as possible' if, for example, you're running an LCD projector with it and want to avoid sheering effects.

Scarf WIP

Saw two yarns I couldn't resist when going to Jo Ann's Fabrics with [livejournal.com profile] ironbadger yesterday. Moonlight Mohair: Rain Forest and Moda Dea KickX: Curious. Nothing fancy, simple two-in-one knitting resulting in a really thick, plush scarf. Will have leftover Moonlight Mohair (the non-fluffy yarn) that'll end up being turned into a 'lanyard' style loop at one end of the scarf, so I can pull the other end through the loop to secure it around my neck easilly, or hang it on a wall somewhere. 12 yards may be enough I'll be able to race the yarn back to the far end and add a fringe at the non-looped end after the loop's done, but that gets made first.

I may do another in more subdued forest tones, if this turns out well would anyone out there be interested in me making them one?

...but I just wanted to share this, and bop [livejournal.com profile] talesin on the head with it.

Go here for a nifty picture by [livejournal.com profile] basteki that I'm going to try to make into a full-blown visualization for the dances at Further Confusion next year. Theme or not, it's just too damn cool. :-)

Anyone out there know who was sitting beside Teverant in the Dealers Den? She did this badge for me, (points at icon for this post) and it turned out wonderful and I want to pimp her out along with all the other badges I got this year. But I lost the notes about who she was. =-.-=

Good con. Had a very long talk with [livejournal.com profile] mira_fastfire about our relationship, or more specifically our lack of progress on one due to the physical distance and rarity of seeing each other in person, along with her current work with another Dom and relationship links that were much more physically local. We're both taking a step back, as my goal this year is to get myself financially secure and stable enough to move into my own place on my own with no room-mates, though perhaps house-mates. (The difference being a house-mate has their own room to themselves. It matters.)

So... this is something of my make-or-break year.

Because of that, despite having it suggested I apply for the Events Lead position with Further Confusion for 2007, I'm going to stick to simply Social Events Lead, basically in charge of DJs and the dances and the like. The side of A/V that interacts with the people providing audio for us to play, essentially, much like FCTV interacts with the people providing video for us to play primarilly. It's one of those hard-to-classify positions that I can thankfully deal with mostly remotely, though I do intend to head up to the bay area for as many of the meetings as I can manage.

In lieu of this, I've re-assessed my current car situation. My mom's 1986 Jeep Comanche with more towing gear than most fire trucks is going to Catalina, it looks like, so we're rebuilding the engine and tranny fully before shipping it out. This means that it's unlikely to ever set foot on the mainland again, so I'm down to one car to drive regularly, my 1986 Corolla FX. The rings are failing, and the cost to really rebuild the beast would be somewhat high.

So... between that and the fact I can't quite break 30mpg in the Corolla no matter what I do, I'm doing the following:

Shifting back to nearly full-time work with Securitas. I'm going to only get 2 additional days for 4 days a week total, so I can grab off shifts when needed and retain at least one weekend and one weekday day completely to myself. I doubt I'll end up with a three-day 'weekend' but I may, which would be nice. This will bring my income back up painlessly.

Next issue is locating a more reliable vehicle, since I can't drive our 1980's Porsche 944 around as a daily driver, even if it does get 30mph. So... back to the Civic Plan™ I guess, I just don't like the Corolla that much compared to the Civic, and I get the feeling there are numerous problems waiting to crop up on the Corolla. It's never had a 'strong' powertrain, only a strong body, and that is showing signs of damage as well, so I have no reason to keep it at this point beyond the fact it's almost my only car now.

On a side-note... if I met you at FC, say hi! I want to make sure I didn't miss anyone. =^.^=
wolfwings: (Default)
Picked up [livejournal.com profile] talesin on the way... we're stopped and Talesin's taking a break while I get on-line. Yay for BlueTooth and cellular data plans! =^.^=

Anyways... I'm approximately here on the corkscrew behind a big-rig with another big-rig behind me and [livejournal.com profile] talesin's car, we'll be heading off in a minute.
wolfwings: (BadgePair!)
...about to load everything in the car, finish washing the windows on the car before the trip begins, and shove off.

Should get there early Wednesday morning, and I mean early that morning. Sleep and Shower at Sam's house... then to the Doubletree! BANZAI! And picking up Bushycat a little after noon that day, assuming her bus isn't delayed. Need to unload the Corolla BEFORE that though so there'll be enough room. =^.^=

My contact info's up at http://wolfwings.us as always, phone number, etc. Note, however, that if I'm using my cell-phone for internet access (which I do frequently since it doesn't cost me minutes, so it's great for checking maps while on the road) the phone will dump you instantly to voice-mail. Other than that, I'll have it on me at all times.

If you're looking for me, your best bet is to look for this ensemble at first:

The badge-pair made by Likeshine and FireEyes )

I already know I'll be picking up at least two more badges at the con, not counting my staff ensemble. =^.^=

And if you're really looking for me, I'll also have a plain-cut, heavy leather jacket on a lot of the time unless it's too hot, in which case pray you can spot the con-badges of the blur that just zipped past you. :-)
wolfwings: (Sad)
...and the 40 isn't that much better, but at least the destination was worth it. Slowly making progress helping clean this house for friends before the appraiser gets here, and both glad I brought the truck instead of the Corolla and wishing I could have brought the Corolla even still.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to come back here at some point. I'd nearly forgotten how nice it was to be out in nature, away from the universe but still with enough sheer space to relax away from everyone around you.

Getting to give attention to snuggly and friendly birds whenever I want (and they're officially 'awake' here) is a nice bonus too. =^.^=

...Verizon is no longer having anything whatsoever to do with any phone calls I make.

I'm not on T-Mobile, amusingly though NOT with a Sidekick. Got a Razr of all things so I could use it to wirelessly connect my laptop to the internet (which I'm using to post this from Terminal 4 of LAX outside the Quantas Arrival Gate ATM) and as evidenced by this post it works well. The screen is readable, the phone is a little tempermental about operating inside heavilly-fortified buildings but works quite well otherwise and is nice and lightweight. Thankfully I can avoid being a trendsetter since 90% of the time my phone will stay in my backpack holster, accessed through the wonders of BlueTooth. Huzzah for a phone that actually supports all of the god-damn specification instead of the restricted-crap Verizon shovels out by the bucketload.

And the best part? It's an unlocked SIM-based quad-band model I'm in the process of completely de-branding, so if I ever get the chance to go visit Australia or England, I just pick up a local SIM card, slot it, and away I go. Just need to order a replacement battery-compartment cover from Motorola to remove the laser-etched T-Mobile logo on the back of my phone and finish uploading the replacement images to change the T-Mobile icons back to Motorola defaults and I'll have a completely plain Razr.

I'll try to refrain from performing open-parts-surgery to replace (not cover) the shell with a dark forest green one. For now. =^.^=

And the best part? One-year contracts, and the phones were nearly free so my mom said to pounce on it. She got one that was much smaller, and had a better camera, but lacked BlueTooth since her laptop doesn't have that feature, but hers can still tranfers files with a standard USB cable, no muss, no fuss, no secondary charges.

Now if I can just figure out a way to use the cell-phone as a live webcam. It already lets me transfer video-clips and the like without issue at least.

An article I thought you might find interesting about the history of that Anime you showed me.

The URL by itself is just a hoot, but does give a fair warning of the basis for the site. They're all old "Log Cabin" style dresses, but some of them I thought you might find interesting at least. Dunno if any of them are your style, and blaim [livejournal.com profile] xianjaguar for discovering the site in the first place. :-)

...this is the car I would own. Preferably two or three of, some to give to friends.

Though I'd get the gas tank to be increased to 5 gallons, just so I would actually be able to buy enough gas at one go to do things like get the car washed for free and the like. :-)

Amusingly, Wikipedia is quite accurate, the vehicle (despite being so damn tiny) would be reasonably safe (comperable to many convertables) since the entire body is carbon fibre, not simple plastic.

And s'more happyness I can hopefully inject (though at ~491kbit Ogg Vorbis, hope nobody minds a 13MB music file too much once it's done uploading to the server) into others lives, thoughts of U2 slinking into the fact that the smokers lounge/outdoor balcony during the intermirrion between Marley's son and U2 played John Lennon's Imagine while me and my mom got some fresh air during the changeover...

Saw them November 1st @ Staples Center @ 20:30 with my mom.

Won the tickets from Jack FM on October 31st @ Santa Ana Main Place Mall @ 09:00 by myself in the parking lot for being the first guy to show up at 04:00.

Having since dug into the recent tour, I'll avoid saying anything in detail except how pretty most of the show was, because details are sure to piss numerous people on my friends list off, and/or just make numerous folks uncomfortable with the well-intentioned imagery they used, but I really approve of the message of the show.

And call it commercial pap or not, but cellphones really are the 21st century replacement for the ubiquitous lighter of former decades concert-goers. :-)

And I think I would still be buried neck-deep in the morass of semi-depression I've been fighting off (yes, I've been seriously depressed these last 10-15 days, one of the worst bouts I've ever had in my recollection, despite however my voice may have sounded to folks) if I hadn't gone to that concert. I've rarely had such an injection of raw happy in my life before.

That, and it felt really god-damn good to be part of an entire stadium concert that bounced up and down in the bleachers for over 2 hours with almost nobody sitting down except for one song at a time and in random bunches, from the youngest pre-teens to the 65-year-old grandmother to my left and her 42-year-old son with her. I've rarely witnessed such raw enjoyment that crossed all barriers imaginable.

And Edge is still an alien from outer space. =^.^=

...but a friend loaned me a copy of Doom 3 w/ expansion pack.

And apparently my laptop that practically dies trying to run Second Life even at 640x480 can cheerfully run Doom3 at 30fps@640x480 with everything but antialiasing and shadows turned on, as long as I don't set the texture resolution too high. More proof the Second Life graphics coders don't know their ass from a teakettle, I'm afraid.

Now various random noise for numerous people:

[livejournal.com profile] catwoman69y2k? Listen to [livejournal.com profile] redfeatherhusky about your web page. She's a very good artist with some very good knowledge between her ears on website stuff.

[livejournal.com profile] redfeatherhusky and [livejournal.com profile] dour? I'll pop the question here again, anything you two still need that you think I can help with? Or am I more-or-less in the 'someone to talk to, but not much else' category after losing track of getting you the computer among so many other things I fell through on to numerous other people these last couple months?

[livejournal.com profile] mira_fastfire, I love you. =^.^= And give [livejournal.com profile] theassassinnox a hug for me when you see her next.

And [livejournal.com profile] theassassinnox? Post updated pictures of finwood once you get the dreads finished and attached, please? :-)
