...but now everyone can see why I didn't think the car was dead and why it broke my heart so much to have to take it to a scrapyard.

Especially when the fucker still ran, well enough that I drove it into said scrapyard.

Yes, trained responses are a good thing. It's somewhat amusing how well the door frame held up in respect to the roof's corner supports.

That's easy to explain.

The roof was what knocked the front bumper and most of the engine block of a mid-70's Chevy Suburban completely out of it's chassis. That it held up as well as it did is amazing to me. :-) Hell, the dome-light still worked, so the tunnel the wiring goes through was still intact.

But yeah, when the roof caved 'inwards' that's the same to the door as if they opened 'outwards' so they took, effectively, zero impact from this collision. Hell, as evidenced if you look closely, the windows are rolled down in the later pictures, but very clearly rolled up in the first ones, and I only took about 5 minutes taking all those photos.
