Oh yeah...

...I think all this fucktardedness is really biting Sony in the ass. This Battery Recall stupidity isn't helping either obviously. Makes me glad I bought from HP, no battery recalls yet. =^.^=
Nintendo Profits up 72%
Sony Profits down 94%
So... um... yeah. Good luck with that whole 'selling the console at a loss' thing, Sony. I've seen how small the PSP game kiosk by the XBox/PS2/GameCube Accessories aisle is at the local Fry's compared to the DS-related aisle all by itself, and this just backs up what I thought was happening. Sony's finally shot themselves in the foot too many times in a row in one year. Sure, the PSP gets something in the middle of the aisle, but the DS has nearly an entire aisle devoted to it.

Date: 2006-10-26 08:19 pm (UTC)Tons of PSP owners are importing releases of major games (in English) from EU region since the PSP is region free. SCEA is continuing their absurd policies that plagued the PS2 for years, but enforcing them in a way that is mindless.
For instance, the "no ports" rule for game titles that are below a certain "marketability" threshhold, like Madden 57. On a console, being careful of cheap and dirty ports does make a measure of sense. The PSP however, has gotten "ports" that are quality conversions for a portable format of lots of classic console RPGs, such as Breath of Fire III and several Tales of- games. SCEA refuses to let them in at the border because they're "just ports". If Square Enix didn't have so much clout, the PSP release of Valkyrie Profile might not have seen the light of day in North America.
I would almost suspect that the primary reason that the PS3 is region free (for games) is so that SCEA can tightly restrict the number and kinds of games officially published in the US - on a misguided tactic trying to make PS3 seem elite and exclusive - while figuring the hardcore gamers will merely import the rest of the games.
Which, might seem implausible considering they just blew Lik-Sang to pieces and clearly don't care about the health of the import game community. However, I suspect Sony's top brass could really be so misguided as to support contradictory aims like that.

Date: 2006-10-26 11:02 pm (UTC)As long as you don't go above 100, you still are making a profit. However, this year Sony is making a very tiny profit (It still is profiting in the Millions of Yen, notice). This is because they have missed the delivery dates for many of their products, and are admid what seems to be company turmoil. It has been a very embaresing year for Sony, and I am sure the CEO is in real hot water.
Sony may repesent quality, but it is being out competed at every turn. Other companies are producing faster, cheaper, and at sometime very close quality. While Sony still is the benchmarch to which you compare your electronic entertainment products, their sales strategy must be rethought if they expect to return to the competing market next year.
... if you will take this armchair economicist with a D in Macro Economics word for anything. :D
