If having certain things in your Interest field can get your journal permenantly suspended without any warnings you've now defeated the purpose of even having the field populated in the first place since there is no way for anyone to safely use the field because of the last of 'instant perma-kill keywords' that trigger this insanely stupid fate.

So I've now moved my interest-list to this post until LJ's legal team gets a clue that this is the wrong action to take, and if this sort of liability is actually out there, delete the field instead of perma-banning entire journals. And yes, the bans are unrevokable. Because if they allow the journal to have the 'illegal' interests removed, and they then get sued, they are now definately liable due to prior knowledge of the existance of the interests.

I'm not mad at LJ. They have to cover their asses, and with 13 million journals, they can't be expected to go through every single one.

I'm mad at Warriors for Innocence for being so fucking against free speech that they indiscrimintately waged a war against Six Apart, contacting their advertisers and saying "guess wat ur buyin webspace from pedos lol" and threatening LJ and Six Apart with legal action. THAT is what's wrong with this situation.

For that, I'm angry. If the interest field has this legal liability attached, guess what? Field goes away, global posting pointing out why, no large screams aside from those directed at W4I. As it is, this has everyone screaming at LJ/SixApart because people's journals got deleted.

So yes, I'm angry at both. W4I for being such idiots, and LJ/SixApart for also being... well... idiotic in their solution.

Of course not. :P They won't say what they are. It's safe to say that "rape" "incest" "pedophilia" and so on are triggering it, but as for the rest, well.

The only thing Warriors for Innocence is truly accomplishing is sending the real pedophiles further underground. They FUCKING ANNOUNCED that they were starting this hunt on LiveJournal on their website! Just what we need, more crusaders with their heads up their asses.

Having had to actually sit within a few feet of a guy using LJ and myspace to share very disturbing photographs and go through the stuff helping the police, I am kinda on LJ's side on this.

Okay...

...so explain why they're deleting spanish-language journals listing Lolita in the interest field then?

The problem with keyword-based censorship is (especially in English languages) we've appropriated numerous words from other languages to mean something completely different.

Tossed salad. Sounds mundane, yes? It's a slang term for a rather extreme form of mastication of the anal cavity itself. It makes rimming look like a friendly wave in passing. I'm quite sure performing it would be illegal in many areas. Could that term suddenly get pole-axed the same way?

LJAbuse used to penalize people for what they did. Penalizing people for what they think, even if they put massive disclamers that the journal is fictional all over the place, and never make any posts relating to the topic at all, will now get that blog deletedsuspended forever with no warning? Just because they list certain words in their interest fields? That's the worst form of censorship, badly planned censorship with no recourse.

Welcome to the world of giving someone else rights to your thoughts by using webspace they own. If you don't like it, host a journal on your own private home hosted server.

Welcome to LJ turning a complete 180 from how they used to do business, apparently due to the actions of a vigilante group. Previously they made it quite clear that it only mattered what you did in your actual journal. This is a 100% reversal of that, without warning, and without explanation or recourse.

There's going to be shouting when a company said one thing for years then suddenly reneges on that stance without any warning. A lot of it, hopefully enough to get LJ to figure out some other approach. If not, a lot of people in fandoms I enjoy are migrating to GJ it looks like.
