...just broke my pinkie toe on my left foot. Going down the stairs, stepped on a shirt, turned out there was a piece of paper under the shirt. *ZOOP*thud*whack*CRUNK* in that order as my pinkie-toe hit the edge of three steps in a row. I didn't stumble or fall, just turned it into a long stride, but knew almost instantly something was screwed up.

Iced it instantly until it hurt instead of felt good, felt my endorphins wearing off so I put the ice away and took a nap. Woke up... *throb* ...took ibu and aceto, along with a Vitamin C just for kicks, waited 30 minutes... wiggled a noodle. Either it got something torn at the base joint, or I turned my pinkie-toe's bones into mush, either way the entire pinkie toe's swollen.

So... off that foot as much as possible for the next couple of days until it knits up however it will enough to walk/drive without pain. But damnit... OW.

Upside: Gave me a chance to work through most of HL2:Ep1 finally. Still annoyed they dropped the Black Box, and feel ripped off now. =-.-=

Zooping is bad, yeah. Whoosh is good, it's when suddenly the ground zips out from under me that Bad Stuff™ happens. =^.^=

I hear that it is good to tape it to the next toe for support.

I never had a broken toe feel "good". But everybody is different....

If you have insurance, I would get it checked to make sure that the brake is not high in the foot, which requires treatment....

*Hugs*, I miss you.

Already verified the break isn't higher up.

Can squeeze quite hard all the way down to less than a quarter-inch above the pinkie-toe 'joint' without any pain, the arch isn't swollen at all, all the damage and resulting inflamation is localized to the pinkie toe. =^.^=

And unfortunately I can't stomach the pain to actually tape the toe, so I'm just staying off it. Down-side of barefooting, it's very hard to leverage my toes together without squeezing, and squeezing the pinkie toe hurts too much right now, and I lack proper materials for a spacer+brace to remove the need to squeeze the toes together. =-.-=

Did you set it? That is the part that gets to me the worst. I have broken toes many times, but it is usually a greenstick. I will try to pull my toe really hard to make sure it straightens out. I do have one odd space between two toes on my left foot. I can't remember the details but it does look a bit strange now, so I'm not sure if I pulled that one or not. I also lost some tissue between the next over toe, so perhaps that has caused the space....Huuummm....

What worries me is that I can usually walk on them rather quickly. Sure they are sore but I keep trucking. I am worried that something might be bad wrong. But you can see and feel it, and I can't. Glad that you have the time to be able to stay off of it. Take good care of yourself....

I don't hear any plan of visiting the doctor.

Arnica montana gel will help with the swelling, and remember RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, elevation!

Nope, unfortunately.

Between insurance ATM (doesn't kick in for about another week) so no X-rays for me, just old-fashioned poking and proding myself to figure out what's wrong, and monitoring closely for any changes in color for the worse. Started black-and-blue on one side, it's faded to an 'annoyed' red color already, and the swelling is starting to go down.

Been icing it about every 6 hours (yeah, I know it could/should be a bit more often, but I've been mostly asleep the rest of the time or I forget to re-apply before the ice-pack turns to a water-pack and I don't want to trudge up the stairs each time just to get more ice) and set up my laptop near the couch so I can keep my foot up on the back of the couch easilly to keep it elevated while I poke around on-line when icing things.

I'll see about stopping by the store tommorow for that gel you mentioned though, thanks for that product-idea, I hadn't heard of it before. =^.^=
