Just placed the order for the permanent-install CB gear (antenna, cable, mount, splitter so it can go to my radio still, re-using my existing radio-shack CB for now) and the RAAMmat soundproofing for my Yaris. I may actually get it installed before RCFM. *hopeful look*

But yeah... $400 should let me truly finish my Yaris off now. Road-warrior wagon, here I come. =^.^=

I've toyed with it with a basic setup, now I'm going to a full-tilt setup: 102" stainless-steel whip w/ fold-down base, 2.5" stainless-steel disc mount (one above, one below the roof, rubber gasket on top to protect the paint), Firestik coax, Firestik AM/FM splitter, basically I went for the best components I could for the antenna since it's going to be as much a style statement for my Yaris (9ft of antenna on top of it) as functional.

I figure I should have a pretty decent range from this bugger once I get it tuned. =^.^=

Why not become an amateur radio op?

Do you know of a source for antenna springs? The antennas on the satellite truck keep getting busted off on trees hanging in to the traffic lanes.

Thought about it, and looked into it.

Don't feel like going through the hastle of getting a license, primarilly. And the costs are an order of magnitude higher from what I saw, CB radio's are dirt-cheap, and easy to get in very small form factors. Most other types are hard to get this small unless you go with a motorcycle model, in which case you're paying through your nose. =-.-= If I had a full-sized vehicle, I'd consider it more, honestly. I just lack the room for it to be cost-effective just yet. =^.^=

And for antenna springs, I bought mine from Walcott CB and opted for the solid stainless-steel pot-belly spring since it's (by far) the heaviest-duty solid-stainless-steel spring they offer, and it's actually rated or 8-9ft antenna's, unlike all the Firestik's that're rated for 5ft or so max. I dunno anyone that offers anything but CB-standard-thread for their springs though, sorry.

Radio Shack also offers a decent antenna spring, if you don't mind nickle-plated steel. It works, and it's as sturdy, but not corrossion-proof like the one you can get from Walcott is.
