...why is it, during what I keep hearing is an economic downturn, that I'm getting job offers from people I've done minor contracting work for previously out of the blue, when I'm not actively job hunting?!?

Just... confusing, I guess. Is IT maybe booming compared to the overall direction of things, perhaps? Only explanation I can have for it. I'm seeing people get hired out of my IT company to better-paying jobs on a bi-weekly basis on average since the beginning of the year (in a company of under 100 employees) so either the entire IT industry is in a boom, or at least over here in Kansas City, Missouri it is. =O.o=

Perhaps it is because the economic down turn is a media enhanced hallucination?

Well, I know I haven't sold any art since January (at FurCob, and even then sales were absolutely horrible in comparison to previous years), and I'm about to lose my art-related job at the end of the month due to absolutely no money coming in. Boss can't afford to pay me anymore. I sure as hell feel the economy spiraling down. But my livelihood is considered to be a luxury, so when people are tight on cash art is the first thing to go.

With gas on the rise, and thus food prices on the rise and in turn my rent going up another 50$ a month, it's pretty bad from where I'm standing.

But yes, anything dealing with computers is on a rise. I was just talking with [livejournal.com profile] dour and his friend/co-worker about that last night, how I wish I were computer-smart so I could have some stable income right now. Both of them are actually doing great at work. But meh. It's still not enough to cover the rising costs of food and such.
