Um... yeah...
Jun. 13th, 2008 03:08 pm...why is it, during what I keep hearing is an economic downturn, that I'm getting job offers from people I've done minor contracting work for previously out of the blue, when I'm not actively job hunting?!?
Just... confusing, I guess. Is IT maybe booming compared to the overall direction of things, perhaps? Only explanation I can have for it. I'm seeing people get hired out of my IT company to better-paying jobs on a bi-weekly basis on average since the beginning of the year (in a company of under 100 employees) so either the entire IT industry is in a boom, or at least over here in Kansas City, Missouri it is. =O.o=

When in doubt...
Date: 2008-06-14 03:33 am (UTC)But yeah, this is why I was asking openly like this. I have a very IT-centric lifestyle and folks I chat with on a regular basis, but I realized when the guy I pulled into the company was the fourth person this year (one of them international) to get hired and relocate nearby, maybe it was severely localized. So... public query on LJ as a kind of poll.
Still, that really sucks about art going into a slump at FurCon this year. :-/ I'd vaguely noticed that, but I apparently moved out here to KCMO just before gas prices skyrocketed; I'm barely looking at $3.80/gallon out here still, generally, and getting 36-42mpg anyways.
I'd actually be commissioning you for some art, but I've been worried about you being overloaded, especially when the 'need to clear the backlog' posts you made a'while back. Any particular locations or sorts of work you're looking for or interested in getting out there, besides the obvious of drawing art for moolah? I can nose around my remote-leads, see if anyone knows of anything in the area you're at these days.
