Right when I need cash, it turns out that my money order to Feral never got there... Rather than causing them a loss, and me the hastle of fighting with the bank to find it a day after I had to storm out of a RPG group I was in (though not the one I'm a Displacer Beast Paladin in thankfully, though that's another story) I decided to not to go Feral this year.

That means I have another $179 in my name, soon as I track down the god-forsaken money order's serial number.

Thank God For David Folsom! That's all I have to say, a very nice gentleman at the local Washington Mutual that I don't usually go to, but ended up at by chance.

He knows the commands to query the system line by line in their day-by-day journals, including the ones to call up the semi-automated tape backup for previous months from the central offices.

He spent almost an hour after closing yesterday, and another hour today, helping me track down, by hand, my serial number, cancelled it, and got me my money back.

And he's not at the branch I usually go to. He is now though. :-)

Still, I'm happy, I have MONEY for a while. Time to go shopping!

I'm sorry to hear you've had to cancel your trip to Feral. I know you really enjoy going. :-/

However, it's very good to hear you've found someone, in a bank, who still knows the meaning of "Customer Service." The bank I use, a little 2-branch local bank, still gets all my business. They're small-town when you walk in, but are #4 in the metro area for assets, and that's competing with regional-level banks.

Don't let Mr. Folsom get out of your sight. Be sure to find out what his schedule is, and do your banking accordingly. And be sure his supervisor knows how pleased you are with David's service. A written, snail-mailed letter, would go a long way as a reward for him, and begin to insure that he'll have a long, and lasting position at your new, local bank. :-)

Oh, David won't be going anywhere anytime soon. He's the branch manager for, what I found out, is actually the main Garden Grove branch of Washington Mutual. Turns out the much larger, more rakish branch I opened my account at is the add-on branch with more raw space for funds, but David's branch (where he's also the guy in charge of financial services and one of the few that doesn't sit in a Lexan booth) is the datacenter HQ before the stuff gets punted back to the final, central office. :-)

Well, I bet that David has a boss of some sort, somewhere. I'm sure the letter would still apply nicely. It's always nice to know someone appreciates the good work you do. :-)
