Had to re-sole the feet I was using after the last run, they got thrashed soles after Wild Nights, and at RCFM one nearly failed and I had to band-aid it with hot glue. Stomping around Zona Rosa blew the other one out, and both heels detached... yeah, time for new soles on those feet.
So, MUCH pulling and grumbling later, Pistol got the foam-rubber exercise-mat soles out, and I peeled all off the glue from the sole of the mind-condition Vans inside. Cut out new soles... stick the first one in, glueglueglue... wait, why is the shoe flopping around still?
Yup... low-temp glue and high-temp soles = no stick. So... off to pick up some high-temp glue and a high-temp glue gun tommorow, we'll sort things out then. =^.^=
But yeah, definately looking into getting a pair of Vans now after wearing the maround and marvelling at how comfy they are. =O.o=

Date: 2009-06-15 02:21 pm (UTC)If you are interested in experimenting and drawing on some of the special effects tricks I've seen used here's an idea.
- If you have two porous surfaces like cloth and foam rubber.
- If you don't care about ever getting it apart again.
- If the junction will be out of sight.
Try clear silicone sealant. It is a flexible no heat solution. And it will not fail when it gets warmed up from your hot feet walking all over it.
Put that blue painter's tape over any parts of the suit that it would be bad to get silicone on. Especially the fur around the joint. This stuff has a fairly high squish factor when applied this way.
Wear disposable gloves because you are going to be working it into the joint with your fingers. Coat both surfaces working the sealant into the fabric and foam so the silicone gets a good grip while maintaining a thin but solid coating on the surface. You have about 15 minutes to really work the stuff.
Press the two pieces together. Make sure they are lined up the way you want them. Set it flat and drop a couple phone books and an old D-BASE III manual on it. Leave it alone for 24 hours.
If any came out on the sides, trim with a razor knife. Remove the tape. You should be in business.
I've used that trick numerous times.
Date: 2009-06-15 03:46 pm (UTC)If I could get, say, 780 tire-treadwear rubber sheets, or even proper shoe-sole rubber in big enough sheets, then fuck yeah, I'd make this crap permanent. But since I have to plan to re-sole these occasionally I can't, and have to use hot-glue just strong enough it's a pain in the ass to peel back off the inner shoe, but not so weak it'll fall off before the exercise-mat-puzzle-piece foam wears through.
