And does anyone have any ideas for nifty PDA utilities?

Name something... a GM aid (but be specific as to what you want it to do) or a game (again, specifically WHAT game?) or even just a utility, name it, I want to program something but as usual have no clue what to program.

Much like drawing, I can't ever get started, but I can actually do it once I DO get started fairly readilly. That reminds me... I need to find someone willing to harass me to draw or practice my guitar every day. And literally, I mean harass me like a teacher, but I'll learn on my own. :-)

Program something to take over Mira's computer with tons of little pink hearts. ;)

LOL I'm not sure whether that's touching or cruel XD

PDA Suggestions.

IR Remote (Programmable.)
d20 Player utilities. (Dice, HP, AC, THAC0, etc.)
d20 DM Utilities. (Dice, Creature HP/AC/THAC0/DMG, XP Calculator, Iniative list, etc..)
Birthday/Date Tracker/Alarm.

Those are just some that are on the top of my head.

The IR Remote already exists. I have a copy, though it's more technically-minded, not really supporting making a layout on-screen with buttons like a true remote control. But that's as much because the PalmOS devices don't have a powerful enough IR emitter to really use as a remote control as any other reason.

The DM utilities sound tempting though... I'll need to pick up a 3.5-edition Players Guide first though. I only have the 3.5DMG and original 3.0 everything-else still. =-.-= Unless you actually wanted 3.0-compatable stuff?

I wonder when they powered down the IR port? The old III's used to be powerful enought to change the channel from about 20 feet. :-/

Wierd... maybe it's just the reciever on the TVs I've tried. I'll take a peek at making a 'universal remote' PalmOS util though, that sounds fun, especially making the layout-editor. =^.^=

Actually, I have a simpler idea, but a much more complicated one. And you only need the DMG and the old PHB to pull this one off.

Your challange? Create a Bonus tracker that will keep track of the possible bonuses to hit and to armor class, so that it keeps track of each one. Possibly a spell list check sheet so that it'll apply the modifiers for the spells automaticlly.

Why is this important, because different bonus abilities don't stack. Only the highest one is counted. There are times where various different items and spells apply the same bonus to the same person. This can get very confusing at times. A tracker would help keep it clear how much of a bonus a person really has.

Just a thought.

I could really use a programmable PDA dice utility. Roll anywhere from a D2 to a D100. It would be even cooler if I could import and export charts so that I can click "Roll" on a particular chart and get the chart results, for example:

(d20)

1-4 You live. Lucky.
5-7 You suffer.
8 You cling to life.
9-19 You die.
20 You cannot die, you are undead BWAH HA HA HA HA.

This would be really great if I could take a text file of up to 100 possibilities and import/export it to the PDA.

As in the above example, the file would look like this: first line is [type of table, # of entries]

d20,5
1,"You live. Lucky"
4,"You suffer."
8,"You cling to life."
9,"You die."
20,"You cannot die, you are undead BWAH HA HA HA HA."

(This is also something which believe it or not, I could use at work. Testing people in the field.)

If you'd have the time, I'd really appreciate it.

Hrm... I think I can accomplish this.

I might basterdize your initial idea into something easier to compute however, since I'm a statistics nut with too many formulas in my head. :-)

Specifically, you'll simply give each possible result a 'weight' (1, 2, 3, etc) for how many times it could appear, the utility will automatically total all these numbers and deal with the math so you don't even have to say if it's a D2 or D1000.

Second, I'll set it up so an individual slot can actually be a reference to another table, so you can do things like 3d6 with a little work and wasted space.

Third, I could see adding support for making a given result from a table actually set more than one result string, and have the program display the result strings in numeric order.

Table #1
Entry #1
Weight 4
    Results
  1. {Table#2}

  2. Sword

  3. {Table#3}

Would that fit your description okay?

Sweet.
