The Navy re-upped and released the funding for Bussard to complete his WB-7!

Maybe soon we can bury these accursed Tokamak designs into the annals of history where they belong, and get on with fusion already. =^.^=

...trying to figure out an effective way to tunnel City of Heroes/Villains, I keep running into a simple obstacle: The game uses UDP heavilly, and the firewall I'm trying to poke holes in blocks most UDP in an effort to block the majority of games. (But they specifically allow WoW, Half-Life 2, etc, etc.)

Found out the official port-list CoX uses: 2104, 2106, 6994, and 7000-7100, a wide mix of TCP and UDP on both.

TCP tunneling is trivial: PuTTY does it nicely. I use it for my Torrents a lot, in fact, to shuffle my data-connections around when I'm behind a firewall for example.

But I just can't find any kind of UDP-over-TCP program for Windows. :-/

OpenVPN works, but you need a machine 'outside' the firewall that you have full access to, to be able to put in the low-level TUN/TAP driver for Windows/Linux. So it's a pain to set up, generally.

Any ideas out there, folks?

My contact information page (yes, there are sub-sites, but the main page is just contact information) loads correctly on my Nokia phone, AND I have the current version of the cell-phone-theme-in-progress posted there as well. The MIME type is even set right so anyone else using my phone can just go there, click the link, and wait for the theme to drop right into their phone. Should work on any Nokia with a 128x160 screen, and it's still vaguely a WIP.

The main background is based on Butterfly by Neonja with the various icons from the bajillions of freely-usable ones made by Paul Davey.

Just thought I'd share. =^.^=

Been doing s'more research. Found out one interesting thing at least: If you can connect to the point where it asks you what server to join, but then hangs and says 'Cannot connect to DBServer' then your firewall is only allowing TCP traffic, but blocking UDP traffic.

Random thought, since I believe I recall you got that far before. Still rooting around to find a UDP method.

Found a way to connect to City of Heroes even through the freakin' firewall they have.

Your Freedom awaits. =^.^=

It'd be approximately $5.50/month if you play more than 18 hours a week or 6 hours in a single day. I'm still researching how to get it to connect through PuTTY instead though.

Off-duty police officer serving as a guard at a hospital tasers father carrying infant when they try to get discharged from the hospital.

Just in case you hadn't run across it yet, [livejournal.com profile] lionman referenced it and I thought I'd stick it up here for you to see, and others to know about as well.

...and I know Okami is mostly 'old hat' for a lot of folks, but I thought of something after running across this image on DeviantArt.

What would happen if they did a 'universe hopping' game (maybe not KH3 directly, but the same idea where you change to match the world you're travelling to automagically) and landed in the realm of Okami?

They've already said they're looking at hand-helds for the next game in the KH universe. So now I have a random thrill of thinking about something vaguely Okami-like but minimal, done on the DS, even if only for a brief segment. And that's about the only system I know of that'd do Okami better than the Wii itself. =^.^=

Use PDFill if you're willing to actually build the PDF. It's a little cumbersome, but far, far, far from the worst option out there for building an interactive PDF. And it's only $20 for the registered version! If you don't need forms, they have a freeware 'printer driver' version too.

How'd you like to never have to worry about CD-Key's, lost CD's, or anything else again, ever. Legally, to boot?

Steam now has the complete iD Software back catalog of games available with some things like a 'super package' deal for about $65, or individual series (they even have Commander Keen!) for less.

Figured I'd punt this to my friends-list, since I've more than once enjoyed the 'buy once, download anywhere' nature of Steam. I hated their stupid 'out of the gate' errors as much as anyone else (can't play single-player off-line without a network connection?!? What were they thinking?!?) but their service is quite stable and nifty at this point.

Edit: I've had a chance to download all the Doom-engine, Quake-1-engine, Wolf3D-engine games, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. All work, and all get installed in the 'steamapps/common' directory as properly unpacked game installs. Meaning the data files work perfectly well with alternate source ports, and native Linux engine binaries. So as long as you can get Steam working under Linux or whatever is your flavor-of-choice, these are perfectly cross-platform-friendly installs of the games themselves.

...I upgraded my phone recently, my mom did too. We're running the new T-Mobile HotSpot@Home service, which works as advertised, and I've started tinkering around with the theming abilities of the phone.

It's rather easy to change things, so far, as the themes themselves are just a renamed .zip file with a .xml file and the various image/sound files inside.

Another thing I'm looking to upgrade is my car... we ran the numbers, and I can afford the payments. So my mom's checking with the credit union, and... well... it looks like I'll be the proud owner of a 2007 Toyota Yaris Liftback, quickly to be re-badged a Toyota Vitz as soon as I get my mitts on it. =^.^=

...Vista is to Microsoft, as the PS3 is to Sony.

Microsoft admits they expect XP sales in 2008 to be at least 1 for every 4 copies of Vista sold.

Compare this to earlier this year, when Microsoft was telling OEM's that they would have to switch to Vista only by January, 2008.

Either that stance has changed, or they're admitting one month of XP sales (and remember, you can basically only buy it from OEMs right now, so with new computers!) will be equivalent to almost three months of Vista sales. Says something either way, doesn't it?

GWB doens't like you? You lose your property.

Specifically, the property of anyone undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people and the best part; There need be no prior notice of a listing or determination made is the punchline. Why? Due to the ability to transfer funds or other assets instantaneously is claimed.

And yes, the bold-font sections are cut-and-pasted, with enough surround material I believe they can be considered approximately in context. The entire thing is short, but good grief. =O.o= As Slashdot puts it, and I concur, this appears to basically undo the 5th Amendment by Presidential decree.

A lot of longer-term Gentoo users will know all these /etc/portage/package.* files I'd imagine, and I'm sure there's some GUI tools to manage them that I'm unaware of since I live on the command-line so much. But I felt I should punt this info up for folks just in case it's useful, and somewhat for my own reference as well.

Now that I've written it though, I'm wondering if I should possibly clean it up and post it somewhere for longer-term display. Any thoughts from the peanut gallery out there?

I... well, I just got called by the TSA. =o.O= Not in a bad way, either. It's been just over a year since I applied, pass the screening tests, and was put in the queue for a background test and all that. They just got back to me finally, asking if I was still interested.

I said yes.

If I get the job, I'll have to move down to Tulsa, but that's okay with me, means I'll be far enough south to not worry about any road-salt at all. I just... wow, didn't actually expect to hear back at this point anymore. Glad I answered my phone when I didn't recognize the number. =^.^=

If I get the job, it's GSD pay scale to start... so, $23.6k to $35.4k... I really need to think about this now. =-.-=

Thoughts, folks? I get the feeling it'll be 'now or never' soon for picking what career I'll be doing for the immediate future, should I really look into trucking at this point, should I stick to security work, or should I take the TSA job if I get the chance?
