I figured it was a given, Microsoft is nothing if not pragmatic. This is sort of a crisis for MS isn't it... But nothing they won't weather.

Heh. My old Compaq laptop died the effectively final death while I was on TDY over in Korea. Having seen the coming of Vista, I refused to play-- the replacement for the Compaq laptop is a MacBook.

So far, as well as this Mac works, and as good as I'm finding Mac OS to be-- I'm done with ****in' Windoze machines. Microsoft, as always, has been among the very best at marketing and corporate propaganda, which now means everyone uses their stuff, but they've NEVER had the best software.

And Dell-supported Linux to boot.

Better hardware for cheaper than Mac, primarilly. LED screen w/ 64GB solid-state hard drive and 4GB of RAM would still be under $3k from Dell. Sold!

I just love how they FINALLY got something that's both stable (more or less) and solid (more or less) and doesn't take nearly as long as 2K to load. And then, gotta make all these changes to driver and software requirements to fight with the Mac/Linux folk on pretty desktop toys. And of course, they've left everyone that would matter behind because of it. Typical. I just wish that they'd been broken up entirely as part of the anti-trust settlement, and they'd conceded they're a HUGE setback to good computing.

Ah well. Ubuntu and I are fast becoming friends, so I think I'll just stick with my XP installs as long as possible and then only move to Vista when there are 'other' games that will require it. And if they do ultimately cave and concede DX10 to XP, that day probably will never come.
