Just got the letter saying I no longer have any health coverage, one of the last vestigle reasons I cared about having the job I did, one of the last 'good things' we had... now we don't even have health coverage, at all. None, zero, not reduced, CANCELLED out from under us with no warning given, barely a month between being told the company no longer payed back for CoPayed medical expenses to finding out, no... we no longer have ANY coverage at all...

Grr... I'm pissed. Seriously pissed. And one of the last things that made this job good, having health coverage... just got blown away. I'm not effectively on my own... I almost wish I really was on my own now. =-.-=

Verbatim quotage from the letter...

Blue Cross of California has issues this certificate as evidence of your prior
health coverage. You may need to furnish this certificate if you become eligible
under a group health plan that excludes coverage for medical conditions you had
before you enroll, if medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment is recommended
or received for the condition during the 6 months before you enroll in the new
plan. You may also need this certificate to establish your right to buy coverage
for yourself or your family with no exclusion for previous medical conditions,
if you are not covered under a group health plan.

Insured Person(s) Certificate Applies to:

Name Birthdate Effective date Termination Date

Christopher W Armstrong 09/20/1979 04/01/2000 05/01/2003

Sounds to me like the company didn't pay in time last month and a full 2 weeks into the next billing cycle they retroactively pulled the plug on previous coverage.

In other words, it sounds like the company I work for is in serious financial flame-out, so unfortunately I'm hedging my bets and checking on my alternatives... This may mean I'll be closer to [livejournal.com profile] mira_fastfire as she already knows about that contingency plan... but it would also limit my on-line access noticably, lack of main-line power on the site being the primary reason.

So there was no real reason given, they just notified you that it was gone? That isn't even a legal move. Sounds like the company IS going under and they figure by the time anyone can get a lawsuit together there will be no company left to proceed against.

That's my reasoning almost to the T, which is why I'm starting to verify my contingency plans, and possible alternatives before what little money and belongings I have vanishes in a puff of smoke.

Basically, I think they're cancelling it due to lack of payment, either that or the company cancelled the health coverage entirely, which still cuts one of my last few tethers of loyalty. The remaining ones are those I live with, since several of them work for the same company as well. But currently, a better tenant for the room I'm currently renting is available, so I have little to worry about from that front as well. The tether isn't cut, but it's not binding me down with a reason to squirm currently... I have more freedom of movement than I've had in a couple years actually.

Since you've been covered by BCBS, you might want to go see what it would cost to continue the policy with them directly. You ought to be able to find info, including how to contact them about it on the Blue Cross & Blue Shield (http://www.bluecrossca.com/user_groups/Visitors/Individual/) website.

If your company has stop paying, and you were paying half of the cost (the way my company does), you might want to make sure you're not continuing to pay that. :-/

Quite likely, hon...

Though currently I'm actually giving the company a bit of a last chance, since I have the funds to wait one last month before having to bail. Mama-wuff's taking care of planning the bail-out if it comes to that, but we figured out to give it July as a last month to check before I vanish up to the realm of the dial-up modems, solar-powered laptops, and LOTS of time to learn to play guitar and build stuff. =^.^=
