Wow... Nokia is getting desperate.

Either that, or this just shows how much N-Gage sucks.

$199 w/ 3 games, instant retailer rebate.

Meaning, yes, you only pay $199. Bam, you're done, out of the store, 3 games, and an N-Gage.

They are desperate here, folks. =^.^=

Breaking into a field with established competition...

Breaking into a field with established competition is always rough. I've not had the money to get into the handheld gaming frenzy... so I haven't even tempted myself by looking at the options. (I know I don't really like the Game Boy Advance that I was given as a gift a few months ago.)

Yeah, the original GBA is a rather powerful unit, in a fairly crappy case with an even worse screen due to the pointless lack of a backlight.

The GBA 'SP' edition rectifies all of these problems, reverting back to the 'classic' GameBoy format, and adding a cellphone-like folding case so it's even more convenient to fit in a pocket, and the screen is decently protected on top of that.

My only complaint with the 'SP' edition, is that they did away entirely with batteries, and rely on a non-user-replaceable lithium-ion battery in the original models I saw, a recurring change in much hardware today that I detest, as when (not if) the battery finally keels over, it's noticably more expensive to replace.

And just as a last note... currently, aside from various cellphones, and PDAs (many of which are ALSO cellphones these days) the only handheld gaming option is the GBA. It's it for 'commercial' games, though PalmOS (especially devices that support PalmOS 5.x) has a very healthy following of shareware/freeware games being developed for it.

GBA is mostly just a portable SNES/NES with updated and simplified (from the programmers perspective) graphics hardware, and is having most of the successful titles for those platforms ported to it.
