Welcome to the Draft in 2005, just after the election, and Sweden-style required-military-or-related service for all those 18-26 if current bills in Congress go through. And guess what? They've already enacted extra blocks between US<->Canada to make moving to Canada an invalid way to avoid being drafted.

[livejournal.com profile] rose_quoll? You're not the only one thinking about Australia more actively now, hon. I'd wager a LOT of people are now.

I told Stephen that I planned on letting my US citizenship go when I got my Australian (you actively have to request to keep it dual), and he seemed shocked, telling me that it was a huge step, and that I really should think more about it....

I'm not coming back here. I hate this place, have for years, and the feeling is culminating.

US Citizenship.

Actually, the US is a jealous country. If you choose to take citizenship in another country, and take their oak of allegience, you technically give up your citizenship to the US. Or, if you choose to uphold dual citizenship, the US won't recognize your citizenship to the other country. In the eyes of the US, you can only belong to one country.

I had a HS teacher who came to the US as a war bride from WW2. She has dual citizenship with France. However, the US doesn't recognize her French citizenship, while France doesn't care that she's a citizen of both countries.

*shrugs* Sorry, but I don't wanna be here, and don't care much about losing the citizenship.

Well, I don't begrudge you that. You should be where you want to be. More power to you.

Pheraps if I visited AU, I'd want to live there to, or NZ. I certainly want to go visit.
